Useful properties and possible harm of quinoa for rabbits

The plant has a rich chemical composition, contains many vitamins and amino acids, which helps to strengthen the immunity of animals. Quinoa has a beneficial effect on the digestive processes if given to rabbits in small quantities. At the same time, there are not only advantages, but also disadvantages from feeding animals to this plant.

The substances that the grass contains contribute to the healing of rabbits. Quinoa is rich in:

  • digestible fats;
  • carbohydrates;
  • vegetable proteins;
  • ascorbic acid;
  • calcium;
  • mineral salts;
  • iron.

Quinoa is good as a vitamin supplement to the diet due to its saturation with microelements, normalization of the whole body processes. It also helps:

  • fight constipation;
  • gain weight, which contributes to the high calorie grass;
  • get rid of beriberi.

With all the variety of beneficial properties of quinoa, it must be remembered that it alone cannot replace other herbs. Ignorance of the properties of plants and improper feeding them can cause serious harm to the body of animals.

When feeding an eared pet, this plant needs to be remembered that it can cause the following conditions:

  • Allergy. The reaction occurs in most cases due to the rejection by the body of the rabbit of certain substances contained in the plant. Allergies can also provoke the overfeeding of her animal.
  • Diarrhea. Especially often this problem occurs after feeding quinoa, growing near busy roads, factories, in areas treated with chemicals.
  • Poisoning. Contributes to this incorrect collection of quinoa – during flowering. To avoid poisoning, grass is harvested until the first buds appear. Removal of flowers containing toxic substances does not guarantee that they will not penetrate into the body of a rodent.

The main thing is that not one quinoa is present in the diet, but other herbs at the same time:

This is exactly what experienced rabbit breeders do, feeding the weed together with other plants, while taking into account the percentage of each of them in percentage terms.

The content of quinoa should be no more than 1/6 of the total green fodder.

Rabbits can be given fresh, slightly dried grass. Initially, it is recommended to give it little by little, in order to check how the quinoa is taken by the animal, whether it affects the digestion negatively.

The first time will be enough to give a few leaves to see the reaction of the animal. In case of refusal, it is not necessary to offer this herb for some time. Perhaps in the future, the priorities of the beast will change and he will start eating the plant with an appetite.

If everything went well and there are no digestive disorders, you can gradually increase the portion of the plant. This should be done gradually so that the rabbit does not have flatulence and diarrhea.

Juicy grass is usually eaten by animals. But you need to be careful when feeding and follow simple rules:

  • Rabbits should not be given fresh grass. It can cause indigestion and other diseases, including death.
  • It is necessary to dry the plant to reduce the amount of esters using a shady place for 3 hours.
  • Before feeding, you need to pour boiling water over the grass to remove pathogens.

It is impossible to dry the grass under the open sunlight – they are destructive for the nutrients contained in the cells of the quinoa.

Collection and storage of quinoa

In order to preserve as many useful qualities as possible when harvesting a plant, an important role is assigned to proper collection and storage.

When collecting, they mostly choose the leaves of the plant while they are at their maximum juiciness. It is advisable not to use the stems – they are not suitable for drying, which makes them very hard, which is why there are often injuries in the rabbit’s mouth.

Before drying, it is recommended to sort out the quinoa, so that poisonous plants do not get into the animal’s food with it. Raw materials are scattered in a thin layer so that it dries faster and better. It is important not to bring the grass to the stage of crumbling, otherwise the benefits of such hay will be small.

When collecting herbs, do not allow diseased and insect-damaged leaves to come across.

Like other herbs, quinoa is stored in rooms that are well ventilated, protected from parasites, have a minimum humidity. With proper storage, the plant can be stored for almost a year, but in the future it will save less and less useful substances.
